It’s Monday! What are you reading?

I’m linking up with It’s Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Kathryn of The Book Date later on today. Kathryn took over this weekly, Monday meme from Shelia of Book Journey who had taken it over from J Kayne Book Blog. This meme is not just about adult books either. If you read picture and chapter books, juvenile fiction, or even YA, they count as well. Jen Vincent of Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee of Unleashing Readers give this Monday, book post link up a kid-focus.

How was your weekend? Sleeping in was the theme. I have these fleece sheets that are so warm and snuggly that it’s hard to leave them. The husband usually gets up early, fills his hungry belly, and then crawls back into bed. I end up sleeping more and let him nap as long as he can as he’s earned it.

Saturday the girls and I made use of our Netflix by watching A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding and then Christmas with a View. Afterwards we trolled for something else to watch and found Kim’s Convenience, a Canadian sitcom. It’s lighthearted like Fresh Off the Boat and we binged up until 11:30 pm Saturday and then finished off season two Sunday.

Well, there’s nothing better than putting your feet up on a Sunday afternoon and grabbing a good book.

How was your reading week? I finished A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir which is the second installment in the An Ember in the Ashes series.

Characters are constantly on the run, either hunting down others or fleeing from danger while on a mission. Bloodshed is happening all over the place. Conspiracy lurks while a political chessboard has pieces moving around. There are a few twists in the plot that took the story in directions and to places that surprised me. There is a somewhat cliff hanger but it gives you a bridge to the third book. I’m on the hold list for the Kindle version and the hard copy. I may get the latter first. Three stars.

On Deck

  1. Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) by Sarah J. Maas

In the Dugout

I had to return the second and third books because of hold lists and just didn’t have time to read hard copies. The first and four books I own on Kindle so I’m in no rush to finish them.

  1. The Black Witch (The Black Witch Chronicles #1) by Laurie Forest
  2. The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Kate Morton
  3. Time’s Convert (All Souls Trilogy) by Deborah Harkness
  4. The Year of Four (Phoebe Pope #1) by Nya Jade

It’s the first Monday of December. How’re you tackling your Christmas list? How do you buy for your spouse/significant other? Do you buy books for avid readers? How do you handle that especially since they read a lot? Have a good reading week. Happy reading to you.

  1. Your weekend sounded relaxing. What fun to curl up with your daughters and just watch TV. Your reading is interesting, too! It’s so hard to plan gifts for people when everything has to be mailed! I think we are just going to buy a few precious things for each other this year and not go crazy the way we usually do. I am going out less and less and that will be the case until March. I have enough boots, handwarmers, scarves and coats. But I do want Santa to get me diamond huggie earrings. I have been a good girl!

  2. Ah sleeping in on fleece sheets – love that. We just put our flannel sheets on and I have been reluctant to get out of bed, especially this morning to get the boy ready for school. It was so cold and rainy. Bleh.

I’m doing ok on my Christmas shopping. I start with Wyatt and move on down through my nieces and my cousin’s girls. Billy and I save each other for last – we never know what we want anyway, and I don’t like to just come up with something just to get something kwim? Usually we end up getting each other socks and books. We are so practical apparently. I hadn’t thought about it. Lol. I do buy books for one avid reader, one of my cousin’s daughters. I usually check in with her mom to see what series she is really enjoying and what she needs. 🙂

Hope all is going well! Have a great week!

    1. Flannel sheets are warm and soft but if you ever get a chance, fleece is even better. I write an email to “Santa’s Helper” and tell him to let Santa know what I want for Christmas. I make a list of items that all have links, LOL. My husband in the past has spent six hours at the mall trying to figure out what to get his wife. I wanted to spare him that agony so I started the list.

  3. Sounds like you had a good week! I’m going to have to look into The Black Witch though, it sounds interesting.

My husband is impossible to buy for, so I generally wind up finding something at the last minute for him. UGH. My kids are pretty much taken care of and they’re honestly the only ones I worry about. Hahaha.

    My roundup!

  4. Oh yes, I have been binging on Christmas films ✨🎄✨ on tv!!!!!!!!! :-)))))) And we finally got our home, looking festive.

Still reading the 13th ‘Inspector Gamache’ book. And my husband is on the 2nd in the series. It’s fun to have books, which we have both read. We can talk about them! These books have lots of characters, and are a bit overwhelming, at first. But you get to know them! And he is finding this, to be true. Now, he wants to see, what next, will happen, to them. :-))))

We have a s-i-m-p-l-e List! Only “grands.” And except for the 8 year old, they get a check. He is being fun to buy for. My husband is having fun, exercising his “Santa Gene,” with doooo things for him. Like a pocket microscope. And etc.

He is being home schooled, and we gave him an old magnifying glass, for one of his projects. He still loves to take it around, and look at things, with it. Which is so cool.

  5. I want to read Time’s Convert since I enjoyed the earlier books in the series, but not enough to pay the current asking prince at Amazon. I’m waiting for a sale! Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  6. Ah some good Christmas viewing was had! I must get on to some. Yes the library is great and like you sometimes I’ve had to return because I just can’t get to them! I love fleece sheets in winter too, but now its getting to throw the sheets off time of the year for us.

    1. It’s harder for me to read a hard copy unless that’s the only book I’m reading, but I can’t fit it onto the tray of the elliptical which is why I’m always on my Kindle. I liked the start of Time’s Convert but at the same time, I feel like the first three books were a saga unto itself. I don’t know if I’m really interested in reading about Marcus’s story. Oh well, no rush.

  7. My son when he was reading more enjoyed A Torch Against the Night. I feel like he hasn’t read the 3rd in the series yet.

I’m still reading a bit of Beneath a Scarlet Sky on Saturdays at lunch. That’s it.

  8. I am trying to be more organized this year as far as the gift shopping goes. Lots of lists making. So far so good. My hubby and I usually but each other little gifts like pajamas or in my case, yarn 🙂
