It’s Monday! What are you reading?

I’m linking up with It’s Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Kathryn of The Book Date later on today. Kathryn took over this weekly, Monday meme from Shelia of Book Journey who had taken it over from J Kayne Book Blog. This meme is not just about adult books either. If you read picture and chapter books, juvenile fiction, or even YA, they count as well. Jen Vincent of Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee of Unleashing Readers give this Monday, book post link up a kid-focus.

The Dillio

Well, aloha. I am countin down til spring break which will start this Good Friday. I am looking forward to sleeping in and schleppin about with the dames.

I’m finally ridin on the Game of Thrones train. On and off I’ve been watching Daenerys videos. After watching her best scenes and watching the actresses talk about the histories their characters (Daenerys, Arya, Sansa, and Cersei), I told my husband I needed to watch the series. So he picked up the HBO channel and we started this weekend; he’s already seen everything and started watching the current season last night, laughing out loud and yelling with his headphones on. So I guess I need to start watching GOT while knitting away during the day.

“Books were faithful and reliable. You could pack them up and put them in a box, run your hands over the spines, flip through their pages full of memories. They always came with you, wherever you went.”
― Karen Piper, A Girl’s Guide to Missiles: Growing Up in America’s Secret Desert

Vixen in Velvet (The Dressmakers #3) by Loretta Chase

Kindle version

I really enjoyed this series. I loved how the sisters were underdogs. These women knew themselves and had confidence in their abilities. I loved how they did anything for their shop.

Each book focuses on each sister. The chemistry between Leonie and Simon was entertaining. I liked their banter and interactions. Four stars.

Magic and Macaroons (A Magical Bakery Mystery #5) by Bailey Cates

This book was one of the most interesting installments. The magical content was riveting. Personally, I don’t know much about voodoo. I liked how this book got into the basics of it. It was an exciting journey into this subject matter and how it related to the plot. Good climax and fitting overall. Four stars.

Spells and Scones (A Magical Bakery Mystery #6) by Bailey Cates

This sixth book furthers Katie and Declan’s relationship. The magical elements and connection to their world was more of a parallel one so I felt the plot wasn’t as strong as the last book. I figured out who the killer was before it was announced. The climax was underwhelming. Three stars.

Unfortunately, my library only has up to this book in this series. I hope they buy more.

I’m happy to report I’m doing very well on my reading challenges this year. Reading in the car before pick up has been my go-to. It is also enjoyable to listen to an audiobook while knitting.

Well, I’m off to knit and watch season one of GOT. Are you a Game of Thrones fan? Have you read the books? I will probably pass on the books for this series.

I hope you’re having a good Monday. Happy reading to you. TTYS.

  1. Your post made me laugh. I left my husband happily watching GOT last night and got some quiet time. He’s trying to get me to watch with him… I’m not sure he’ll get lucky on that front! Lol. The Spells and Scones series looks like fun!

    1. LOL. I like how you have quiet time while he watches beheadings and such. The Magical Bakery Mystery series has grown on me. I’m curious to see the MC abilities grow even more and I like how she’s part of an informal coven who help out in each mystery.

    1. I sure do. I only had time to watch one episode today before pick up. Can’t watch it when the girls hang out here. I do miss having a TV in the bedroom sometimes.

      1. We have not yet watched the first three seasons and I haven’t read the books so sometimes. I have to google events and names…that helps. I would be lost without a tv in our bedroom…it’s such a neat escape. Why did you take it out?

  2. My husband and I watch GOT but we always have to wait till it comes out on DVD because we don’t have cable. Sure makes it hard to avoid spoilers! I’m not planning to read the books either. I hate when my husband goes ahead of me on a series, so you’re a good sport! haha

  3. Never have watched GOT….

I love the dragons of course!!!!! And the Mother Of The Dragons, but not totally sure of her ‘name.’ I’ve watched what I could, on the dragons.

But wonder about that actress having dark, dark hair, when not in costume for her role. Interesting…. To me, she looks best, as a blond.

Enjoy immersing yourself, in a Series!!!!

  4. I am a GoT fan! I love it, although sometimes it gets too intense for me!! Lol. I read a few of the books then stopped. They were amazing though, the ones that I read. I think I made it through three? My brother has read them all though. 🙂

    One more week!! 🙂

  5. Dear One, my point was not the fire. My point is the Censorship I am getting. My blog is not allowed to use a click-able link, from ONE news source. But I am allowed to use a link, to the same story, from a news source, which is not that one.

    Pure Censorship!!!!!!!!!!

    Pure Censorship!!!!!!!!!

    But does anyone care?

And no, I am not an advocate for that news source. I do not read them, or view them on tv. I do not listen to any multi media news sources. I seek out my own.

    But Censorship is Censorship.

    1. I don’t blame you. There are lots of stabbing and beheadings. It wasn’t so bad for me because I’ve seen some stuff online and I do read those brutal fantasies.

  6. Stef I am over the moon for you. One kitten is difficult for a while. Two is perfection. We have Zach’s baby here this week, his 9 month old kitten. He cries in the mornings and Zach says he cries when he leaves for work each day. He’ll get better as he gets older and lazier. Any questions?

    1. They’re going to be 4 weeks old tomorrow! We are hoping the teen’s choice isn’t a boy b/c the husband prefers to have girls because he had read somewhere that boys give off more dander or something? But C & I love Mortimer (that’s what she calls it already). It’s the runt of the litter but it’s so scrappy! It fights for a particular spot to nurse at the mama or if it’s siblings are all fighting over to get to nurse it just makes it way through or over them to get to work, LOL.
