It’s Monday! What are you reading?

I’m linking up with It’s Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Kathryn of The Book Date later on today. Kathryn took over this weekly, Monday meme from Shelia of Book Journey who had taken it over from J Kayne Book Blog. This meme is not just about adult books either. If you read picture and chapter books, juvenile fiction, or even YA, they count as well. Jen Vincent of Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee of Unleashing Readers give this Monday, book post link up a kid-focus.

The Dillio

Not much else is new other than what I had talked about here and here. I got a text from A. yesterday morning when she opened up my card; she wrote her husband had put it in the stack of unopened mail and had just gotten to it. A. loved her birthday card, especially since she knows I handmade it.

Since I did a good amount of knitting last Friday, I spent the weekend starting a new project – cross stitch. Stay tuned this week for a post of what I’m working on. It is somewhat book-related; I’ll flash it here another Monday.

Dukes Prefer Blondes (The Dressmakers #4) by Loretta Chase

Large Print version

This installment was about Lady Clara Fairfax, a character who has had a visible role since book one. I was curious to read her story and see how she ended up.

Strength

I liked the back story of how her and barrister, Oliver Radford, were brought together. I found it interesting and something different from what is usually presented in a historical romance.

Weaknesses

However, the lawyer’s personality wasn’t endearing or highly entertaining; I understand why the author created him as he was but I just wasn’t hooked like I was with other installments. When characters from the former books were present, I had more fun reading those passages.

Also, the verbal sparring between Clara and Oliver were okay in my opinion; I wasn’t riveted. I almost didn’t finish this fourth book but did anyways to see how it ended. Two stars.

Well, today is just another Monday. I will be making the much-needed Costco run and then walking the 16-minute intervals program + run for six, Linkin Park songs afterwards. Have a good Monday. Thanks for poppin in. Happy reading to you and TTYS.

    1. Thanks, Erin. Embroidery is on my list for sure. I bought a few, kawaii-style cross stitch patterns from The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery. There is one woman who designs these super cute embroidery kits. I’ll try to find out the name for you.

  1. So #4 in the series just wasn’t quite as good, but anyway you have reminded me of this series! So happy to hear she loved the birthday card and looking forward to getting a flash of the cross stitch!

  2. So glad A let you know she got her card. 🙂

Sorry the book wasn’t a great one.. Sometimes I do that too and persevere to the end even when I know I probably shouldn’t. Oh well. Hopefully your next reads are better!
